16th November 2017: workshop "Active learning by active games" at the University of Battambang

My last workshop I teach at the University of Battambang. I'm excited and full of energy to start the day with teaching the workshop.  After a welcome, we start.  All the participants are motivated and participate very active. After the theoretical background we start to practice the active games.

During the workshop I explain a lot and together we search the motorial, cognitive and social outcomes.  This interaction with the participants is lovely.

After the workshop participants got a certificate and we took a picture with everyone (with his or her cambodian smile!)

Thank you everyone for this opportunity to teach at the University of Battambang!

After teaching the workshops and the PE lessons I'm sad to leave Cambodia tomorrow.  These experiences I will keep in my hart and in my mind forever!
Hope to see you in the future again!

15th November 2017: visiting Xavier Jesuit school in Phnom Bak and Teuk Lhea

After visiting the school in december 2015, Father Ouyen and teacher/coördinator Lucia invite me to visit again.  This school made lots of progressions: nice buildings, new topics like music, art,...
Lots of volunteers come and stays a while to teach, coördinate or improve teaching.

In the school in Teuk Lhea (kindergarden and grade 1 till 3) they teaches lots of life skills like brushing teeth, eating healthy,...

On the playground in the school in Phnom Bak, kids play with little balls and the teachers learn games to the kids and play with them.  Everyone is having fun! Lovely to see.

After my visit, lunch and a nice talk with Father Quyen, I travel to Battambang.

14th November 2017: teaching PE in secundary school in Chup Vary

One day in Chup Vary with teaching in the secondary school can’t miss in my program.  It is a long trip from Phnom Penh but I'm happy to see my guest family again. Sometimes you have a special connection to a place on earth... well, this is one!

In the guest family I meet 4 Belgian people of the NGO “de bouworde”. They are here to observe the needs in some schools.
After breakfast we go to the school where we have a meeting with the director.

At 10 am I teach my first lesson PE.
After lunch I teach 2 other lessons PE: active dive, pededice with two or in circle, the mirror and relay race.  We have lots of fun during the lessons.  My goal is to achieve motorial, social and cognitive learning outcomes while doing exercises or playing a game. The explanation of the games you find on the page of 8th November (teaching in Kampot).  Here you can see our course of PE in grade 7 and grade 10.

After teaching in the afternoon, I visit the primary school to say hello.  I have a little talk to the English teacher and the director.  Grade 6 plants flowers in the garden. Very nice!

The evening is very nice in my guest family.

13th November 2017: workshop "Active Learning by Active Games" at Svay Rieng University

Good morning Svay Rieng!  Ready for the workshop?

Around 7:30 am I prepare the classroom with some staff, teachers and students.

Materials, needed for the active games

Students come in and have to register their names.

Students help with the administrative work

After a warm welcome of the president of the Svay Rieng University, I start to teach my workshop.  Everything goes very well and the students have some critical questions and ask for more explanation if necessary.

Welcome speech of Mr. Saravuth, president of Svay Rieng University

Playing "Learning dice"

Playing "Throw the ball"

Playing "My name is..."

After given the workshop twice, I’m more relaxed and everything goes smoothly.  I apply the same organisation: after the first 2 active games (learning dice and playing cards), I demonstrate the next active game with some participants.  The other participants observe and sometimes translate.  They supports.  During the games I ask questions to the participants to look if they are following “my story” and “my mission”.

Thank you to participate, organise and attend this workshop

Thank you for the nice present

Main building of Svay Rieng University

After playing the active games, I thanks Mr. Tum Saravuth, with a present of VIVES university college and I receive a present of the university. I'm speechless, weird for a teacher!

Before I take the taxi to Phnom Penh, I have a nice Cambodian lunch at a nice restaurant, close to the university.

At every one of the Svay Rieng University: thank you for your hospitality, kindness, participation and help! Hope to come back in the future.

Arrived in Phnom Penh it starts raining very hard.  Streets becomes rivers, people become very wet in a few seconds (include me… my raincoat is in Belgium!).

I wait till rain stops, to have dinner.  After doing work at my computer, I walk along the riverside before taken the nightbus to Siem Reap.
